Socrates is credited with saying, “I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think.” Our hope is to not present a narrative and encourage the Mosaic to hear things in the way we have always thought of it. Instead, we want to challenge our church community to hear things from a new perspective, which will either reinforce why we believe what we believe or cause us to be open to new possibilities.
This begins with challenging myself to grow and to learn. I refuse to reuse old material. Rather, I seek to reexamine texts and passages to discover new things God seems to be revealing.
Mosaic’s pastoral staff has always taken an intentional approach to why, what, and how we engage Sunday morning conversations. At the same time, we want to be open to the Spirit of God and the ongoing context of the world. This year’s conversations will be no different as we center on four series:
Expedition: Discovering Together God’s Dreams for Mosaic
This will be a conversation on the five key dreams that came out of our Emerging Vision process. We will examine what it will take for us to set out on a journey to fulfill these dreams together.
Ekklesia: Creating a Nurturing Community of Healing and Transformation
This will be a conversation on the nature of the church as a gathering of imperfect people seeking transformation through Jesus.
I AM: Examining the Self-Proclaimed Monikers of Jesus of Nazareth
This conversation will center on the “I am” statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John, discovering their meaning, and how they affect our lives.
Ethos: Discovering the Way of Jesus
Venturing through the Gospel of Matthew, we will discover together the way of Jesus and how it transforms our character.
I look forward to engaging these conversations together.
Grace and Peace, Andy
